If you’re working on a project that needs to detect methane gases, the MQ-4 Natural Gas Methane Gas Sensor is an excellent choice. This sensor module is specifically designed to detect Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), methane (CH4), and similar gases in the air. The MQ-4 sensor is known for its high sensitivity and reliable performance.
The module features standard 4 x 0.1″ header pins, making it easy to connect even though the sensor’s original pin spacing might be complex. It provides both analog and digital outputs: the analog output delivers a continuous reading of gas concentration, while the digital output gives a binary signal when gas levels surpass a set threshold.
You can adjust this threshold using an onboard potentiometer to customize when the digital output is triggered. The MQ-4 sensor detects methane and natural gas concentrations from 200 to 10,000 ppm. Simply power the module with 5V, set the threshold, and you can start monitoring gas levels immediately. An onboard LED also lights up to signal the presence of any detected gas, offering a quick visual alert. This module is perfect for applications that require precise and reliable methane detection.
