The KY-033 TCRT5000 Tracking Module is an excellent tool for building line-following robots, thanks to its ability to detect and follow lines with precision. It features a TCRT5000 reflective optical sensor mounted on a carrier board, which is specifically designed for this purpose. A built-in potentiometer allows for adjustable sensitivity of the sensor, enabling fine-tuning based on the specific requirements of your project.
While primarily intended for line-following robots, this module can also be utilized in mini-sumo robots for line control applications. The sensor operates based on the behavior of light when it interacts with different surfaces. Light reflected off a white surface is almost entirely reflected back to the sensor, whereas light falling on a black surface is absorbed. This contrast in light reflection and absorption is used to detect the presence of lines and guide the robot’s movement effectively.
Each phototransistor is connected to a pull-up resistor to form a voltage divider that produces an analog voltage output between 0 V and VIN (which is typically 5 V) as a function of the reflected IR. The lower output voltage is an indication of greater reflection.
