The GP2Y0A21YK0F 10-80cm IR Distance Sensor is an efficient tool designed for short-range distance measurement. This sensor operates by emitting infrared (IR) light that bounces off nearby objects and returns to the sensor, allowing it to calculate the distance to the nearest object. It outputs an analog voltage signal, which varies according to the distance of the object. Specifically, when an object is positioned 4 inches (10 cm) away, the output voltage is approximately 3V. Conversely, when the object is at 32 inches (80 cm), the voltage drops to around 0.4V. The sensor is equipped with a 12-inch long 3-JST interface wire, facilitating straightforward connectivity. For optimal use, connect the black wire to ground, the red wire to a 5V power supply, and the white wire to the analog input of a microcontroller or data acquisition system. While effective for short-range detection, for measurements beyond 1 meter, sonar sensors are recommended for improved accuracy and range.
Note:
This sensor draws current in large, short bursts, and the manufacturer recommends putting a 10 µF capacitor or larger across power and ground close to the sensor to stabilize the power supply line
