The MAX6675 Thermocouple Sensor Module is an efficient solution for measuring temperature using K-type thermocouples, which are known for their wide temperature range, robustness, and versatility. Available in various lengths, tip configurations, and sheathing materials, thermocouples are widely utilized across different applications. However, they do present challenges, particularly with cold junction compensation and the need to detect minimal voltage changes corresponding to temperature fluctuations.
The MAX6675 chip simplifies the process of connecting a thermocouple to microcontrollers like Arduino, making it both accessible and affordable. It effectively measures the output from a K-type thermocouple and communicates the temperature readings via a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), ensuring seamless integration into your projects.
This module utilizes the Maxim MAX6675 K-Thermocouple to digital converter IC, delivering temperature readings with a 12-bit resolution. It offers an impressive temperature measurement capability from 0°C to +1024°C, with a resolution of 0.25°C and an accuracy of 8 Least Significant Bits (LSBs) within the 0°C to +700°C range. This level of precision makes the MAX6675 an excellent choice for various temperature monitoring and control applications.
MAX6675 Module Pin Outs:
- SO: The module’s serial output. Your Arduino will read this output.
- CS: Chip Select. Setting low selects the Module and tells it to supply an output that is synchronized with a clock
- SCK: The Serial Clock… input from your Arduino.
- VCC: 5V supply
- GND: Ground.
- – (or Minus): The K thermocouple minus input.
- + ( or Plus): The K Thermocouple plus input.
