The KY-015 DHT11 Temperature and Humidity Sensor is a widely used, low-cost sensor designed for precise measurement of relative humidity and ambient temperature. It employs a combination of resistive sensing technology and an NTC thermistor to ensure accurate readings. This breakout board is an ideal, easy-to-use solution for interfacing with microcontroller boards like Arduino, offering a simple installation process for the DHT11 sensor module.
The module integrates a high-performance 8-bit microcontroller that processes the data from the DHT11 sensor. The sensor outputs digital data through a single data pin, making it straightforward to connect to microcontroller systems. The DHT11 has a sensing update frequency of 0.5 Hz, which means it provides new readings every 2 seconds.
In addition to the sensor itself, the board is equipped with several helpful features. These include an onboard LED for visual status indication, a bypass capacitor between Vcc and Gnd to stabilize the power supply, and a pull-up resistor on the data line to ensure reliable communication.
The DHT11 sensor is based on a capacitive humidity sensor and thermistor, and it outputs digital signals, eliminating the need for analog input pins. While it’s a very basic sensor with a simple interface, it requires precise timing for reading data. However, it is limited by a 2-second update rate and is less accurate and precise compared to higher-end sensors like the DHT22. It operates within a smaller range of temperature and humidity.
