The nRF52840 Dongle is a compact, low-cost USB device that delivers full support for Bluetooth 5, Bluetooth mesh, Thread, ZigBee, 802.15.4, ANT, and 2.4 GHz proprietary protocols. Designed by Nordic Semiconductor, this versatile dongle is an ideal companion for nRF Connect for Desktop, offering powerful wireless connectivity in an affordable and portable form factor.
With built-in nRF52840 SoC capabilities, the dongle supports all short-range wireless standards used with Nordic devices. While it does not include onboard debugging capabilities, it supports device programming and USB communication, making it perfect for wireless testing, evaluation, and custom firmware deployment.
The nRF52840 USB Dongle integrates a user-programmable RGB LED, a dedicated green LED, a programmable button, and 15 GPIO pins accessible via castellated solder points. These features allow developers to experiment with hardware interactions and expand their applications. Example projects and sample applications are available in the nRF5 SDK, specifically for board ID PCA10059.
This dongle works seamlessly with most nRF Connect for Desktop apps, automatically programming itself when required. Developers can also compile and load custom applications using nRFUtil, enabling a wide range of wireless IoT, Bluetooth, and sensor-based projects.
