Description

The 5MP Raspberry Pi Camera Module Rev 1.3 is a high-quality and versatile camera accessory designed specifically for use with Raspberry Pi 3 and 4 Model B boards. With a fixed focus 5-megapixel sensor, this compact module is ideal for a wide range of applications including photography, video recording, surveillance, and embedded vision projects. It comes with a flexible ribbon cable, allowing you to easily connect it to the dedicated Camera Serial Interface (CSI) port on the Raspberry Pi, ensuring fast and reliable communication between the camera and board.

The module is based on the Omnivision 5647 sensor, delivering 2592×1944 pixel still images and supporting HD video recording in 1080p30, 720p60, and 640x480p60/90 formats. This makes it a great solution for not only still photography but also live video streaming, time-lapse recording, and video-based AI applications such as facial recognition, object detection, or license plate recognition.

Because of its lightweight and compact design, this camera is particularly useful in space-constrained projects like DIY drones, portable electronics, hidden cameras, or even Raspberry Pi-based smartphones. Just connect the camera to your Raspberry Pi, install the latest version of Raspberry Pi OS (Raspbian), enable the camera interface via raspi-config, and you’re ready to go.

Thanks to the high-speed CSI interface, the module achieves low latency and high bandwidth, capable of transmitting large volumes of image data in real time. Whether you are a hobbyist, student, or professional developer, the Raspberry Pi Camera Module opens the door to countless computer vision and IoT applications in a low-cost, high-performance form factor.

No adapters are required! This camera will plug directly into the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B camera port!

Hardware connection:
  1. Soft cable, 90-degree vertical connector, HDMI port next to it. When connecting the contact side facing the HDMI interface.
  2.  Tear protective film on the lens
  3. Bare boards, pay attention to ESD damage, and beware of static electricity!
Software:
  1. RPi firmware and raspi-config have been updated to the camera, do an apt-get update; apt-get upgrade;
  2. Raspi-config, select the camera, start RPi firmware camera driver, and then restart
  3. Using the command-line programs raspivid and raspistill operate a camera to capture video clips or images
  4. To capture video clips need to play with MPlayer
  5. How will the data through the network camera live broadcast out:
  6. By nc command (ncat – Concatenate and redirect sockets) of the input data of the camera, directly to the output ports of the network redirection.
Important Note!!  This module is only capable of taking pictures and video, not sound.
