The MSP-EXP430FR6989 LaunchPad™ development kit from Texas Instruments is a highly efficient and cost-effective platform designed for evaluating ultra-low-power microcontroller (MCU) applications. Powered by the MSP430FR6989 MCU, it features embedded ferroelectric RAM (FRAM), offering 128KB of non-volatile memory with ultra-low power consumption, high endurance, and fast write capabilities — ideal for energy-efficient real-time embedded applications.
This LaunchPad includes onboard emulation, enabling seamless programming, debugging, and energy measurements without the need for external tools. It provides a full-featured development experience right out of the box, ideal for engineers, students, and makers who want to rapidly prototype and test their ideas.
The board comes equipped with:
-
Two user-programmable buttons
-
Two LED indicators
-
A segmented LCD display supporting up to 320 segments — useful for power meters, industrial displays, and sensor interfaces.
One of its standout features is the BoosterPack™ plug-in module support, accessible via a 40-pin connector. This allows users to easily expand functionality by integrating add-ons like wireless connectivity, graphical LCDs, sensors, and more. Whether you’re designing your own BoosterPack or choosing from Texas Instruments’ extensive library or third-party options, the MSP-EXP430FR6989 offers incredible design flexibility.
Designed for low power applications, this LaunchPad kit is ideal for smart metering, wearable tech, portable instruments, and sensor-based systems. Developers benefit from using TI’s Code Composer Studio™ IDE and EnergyTrace™ technology for optimizing power consumption.
