The Texas Instruments Hercules LAUNCHXL2-TMS57012 Development Kit is a low-cost and powerful evaluation platform designed to help engineers and developers quickly get started with Hercules safety-critical microcontrollers. Built around the TMS570LS1224, this LaunchPad is ideal for applications that demand the highest levels of functional safety, reliability, and real-time performance.
The TMS570LS1224 is an IEC 61508 SIL 3 and ISO 26262 ASIL D certified microcontroller based on a lockstep ARM® Cortex-R4F core, making it well suited for automotive, industrial, and mission-critical control systems. The MCU integrates a rich set of safety and control peripherals, including dual 12-bit ADCs, programmable high-end timers, and advanced motor control peripherals such as eQEP, eCAP, and ePWM. Communication capabilities include USB, Ethernet, MibSPI, UART, and other serial interfaces, enabling seamless system integration.
Hercules TMS570 MCUs are designed to significantly reduce development effort and certification cost for functional safety applications by incorporating built-in diagnostics, error detection, and safety mechanisms. This makes the LaunchPad an excellent platform for evaluating safety features early in the design cycle.
The TMS570LS12 LaunchPad includes on-board emulation for easy programming and real-time debugging, eliminating the need for an external debugger. Additional on-board features such as user push buttons, LEDs, and an ambient light sensor support rapid prototyping and testing. The board also provides two standard 40-pin BoosterPack™ expansion connectors (one populated), allowing developers to extend functionality using displays, wireless modules, sensors, and more.
Pre-programmed with demo software, the LaunchPad enables users to quickly explore the safety, data acquisition, and control capabilities of the Hercules MCU platform, making it ideal for learning, evaluation, and early-stage development.
